With a passion for rural business, Andrew was brought up on a family farm near the east coast of Masterton. He purchased a farm in 1992 with his wife Sarah, and since then they have farmed the land with the help of loyal staff and four hungry children. Andrew enjoys equestrian sports and has been involved with the Wairarapa Hunt for many years.
When it comes to his role as Chartered Accountant at ROVA, he truly enjoys establishing and nurturing new businesses and intergenerational succession. “ROVA offers a full accounting service, focused on client’s goals rather than compliance. Many of our team are directly involved and experienced in rural business which gives a depth of understanding that you won’t find elsewhere.”
An all-rounder, Andrew studied Accounting, Marketing, and French at Otago University from 1982-84 and graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce in 1985. Prior to becoming a director at ROVA, Andrew started at Woodhouse and Partners in 1989 and was admitted as a Chartered Accountant in 1992. He spent two years as a Chief Financial Officer for a local meat processor and wholesaler before purchasing John Roseingrave’s accounting business.
Kathleen is ROVA’s longest serving staff member. She was originally employed by John Roseingrave, working for Roseingrave and Currie, then Eastwood and Partners, and finally just for John. J M Roseingrave soon became Roseingrave and Vallance Ltd and is now known as ROVA Chartered Accountants.
Kathleen has seen many changes in the accounting industry over the years and implemented most of the practice’s accounting software programmes used in the office. She is a MYOB guru and is the go-to person in the office for any MYOB tax issues, and she prepares Financial Statements and tax returns for clients.
When she is not at work, Kathleen enjoys spending time with her husband Gerwyn and two adult sons as well as a large extended family.
“I also enjoy travelling with my family, reading and gardening.”
Jade started with ROVA right after lockdown in 2020. She came to us with bookkeeping, office administration and payroll experience from her father’s contract shearing business. She has brought this hands-on experience with her and understands what it is like on the farm and in the sheds. From there she has developed a passion for the accounting industry, eager to learn more.
Jade undertakes all our payrolls and employer returns, and prepares the majority of our clients GST returns. “I enjoy working closely with the ROVA team, our work environment is very friendly, and everyone is willing to give a helping hand”.
Outside of the office Jade enjoys spending time with her family and running around after her adventurous toddler, Bryson. You can often still find her on the shearing board, picking up fleeces on hot summer days, back where it all began for her.
Ankia joined ROVA in December 2020 as Receptionist/Office Administrator. She is the friendly face to welcome you into the office and on the phone. Before joining ROVA, Ankia was an administrator for a catering firm, undertaking their payroll, billing and other administration tasks. She has a strong interest in learning more about the accounting industry and has even started studying to increase her knowledge. If she doesn’t know the answer yet, she will work hard to ensure she gets the information required. With this trait, she is also our Anti-Money Laundering/Countering Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT) Compliance Officer.
Ankia enjoys “working alongside the amazing team at ROVA”.
When not at work, Ankia and her partner run a busy household of four kids and enjoy spending quality family time together and renovating their home.
Ankia’s top tip is “The better organised you are, the easier things that follow become.”
With many years of experience as an auditor and accountant for a variety of different businesses worldwide, Jo truly enjoys working for ROVA. “We have a fun team at ROVA who I enjoy working with. I like that we are always looking at ways to do things better and keep up with technological advances.”
Qualified with a BCA in Accounting and Commercial Law from Victoria University, Jo is also a Chartered Accountant, with a Certificate in Public Practice. Previously, she worked at Ernst and Young in Wellington as an auditor for three years, when she was seconded to Dublin. She was based in Ireland for nearly two years before she returned to the Wairarapa.
Jo specialises in rural accounting. “I enjoy assisting my clients with understanding their business. We are currently doing a lot more work looking ahead with budgeting and forecasts.” Jo has two school-aged children – Lucy and Henry. Her husband, Andrew, is a farm manager. “We enjoy getting out on the farm on my days off.” When she’s not on the farm or working, Jo can be found on the netball courts playing for Gladstone Netball Club.
Kathy worked for ROVA for three years before she took a break to have children. It wasn’t long before she got the call to return, thirteen years ago!
Kathy has worked in the accounting industry for over 16 years which has enabled her to gain valuable hands-on experience and ample knowledge. She enjoys the client interaction and the opportunity to assist each client with various aspects of their business. Kathy’s main duties include preparing financial statements, Income Tax & GST returns, and is ROVA’s tax administrator. Kathy has experience with MYOB, BankLink and Xero. If you have any Xero or Banklink issues give her a call, she will be happy to help!
In her spare time Kathy enjoys spending time with her family, catching up with friends, completing renovations around the home and getting out and about enjoying the outdoors.
Nikki is a Chartered Accountant who has valuable knowledge, skills and experience from a variety of roles and industries. Prior to joining ROVA, Nikki was the Chief Financial Officer of a not-for-profit and has also worked in both corporate and public practice accounting, in Wellington. She graduated from Victoria University with a Graduate Diploma in Professional Accounting and a BCA in Accounting and Commercial Law.
Nikki enjoys getting stuck in, to solve problems for our clients, and implementing policies, procedures and systems within our practice. She works with a wide variety of clients, undertaking annual compliance, cash flows, budgets, and everything in between. “ I really enjoy connecting with clients on a personal level, to ensure we can provide them with the best possible outcome.”
When not working, Nikki enjoys getting out exploring with her husband and two young girls and going on adventures in their caravan.
